The sizes of boots

The size of boots is determined by the length of the foot.

For determining the size the formula is used: size=foot length x 1.5 + n, where:

n: the allowance: depending on the boots type and the foot width the allowance for free blood circulation may be from 0.5 up to 1.5 (cm).

The sizes of boots:

Important: famous brands initially include the allowance for free blood circulation to the shoes design. In other words, the real insole length is 0.4-0.5 (cm) longer then it is marked on the label or in the size chart.

Foot width:

The foot width determines so called shoe volume, and it’s in charge of shoes comfort for different types of same length feet.

The width measurement is made in the toes area at the widest parts of the foot.

Standard formula for calculating the foot width is: w = 1/4 (b – 0.6c) – a, where:

w: foot width;
b: foot circumference (cm);
c: foot length (mm).

For women the parameter a=16, for men a=17.

Important: many brands show the foot width parameter on the label, next to the size.

The foot width in different countries:

In Europe for foot width they use numeric marking from [1; 8], with 0.5 (cm) interval.

Except this, they use letters for determining the foot width. For example, B – narrow foot, EE – wide foot.

Important: on practice in Europe they follow only 3 groups of foot width: narrow, standard and wide foot.

In the USA and England, marking the width they use letters A – F, with 0.5 (cm) interval.
